Privacy Policy
Interstellar Tracker · Last updated: April 2026
Short version: Interstellar Tracker does not collect, store, or share
any personal data. Your camera, location, and motion sensors are used only on your
device in real time and are never transmitted to our servers.
What Data We Access
The app requests access to the following on-device resources:
-
Camera — used to display the live sky view behind the AR overlay.
No images or video are captured, stored, or transmitted.
-
Location (GPS) — used to calculate the altitude and azimuth of
celestial objects (comets, meteor showers, near-Earth objects) relative to your
position. Your coordinates are used locally on-device only and are never sent to
our servers. Location data is not stored between sessions.
-
Motion & Orientation Sensors — the accelerometer, gyroscope,
and compass are used to detect which direction you are pointing your phone so the
AR overlay can display the correct region of sky. Sensor readings are processed in
real time and never stored or transmitted.
Third-Party Services
The app communicates with the following external services:
-
NASA CNEOS Close-Approach Data API
(ssd-api.jpl.nasa.gov)
— fetches publicly available data on near-Earth objects and comets. No user
information is included in these requests.
-
three.js CDN (jsDelivr) — loads the 3D rendering library used for
the AR star-field. Only the JavaScript file is downloaded; no user data is sent.
We do not use advertising networks, analytics SDKs, crash-reporting services,
or social login providers.
Browser Notifications
If you choose to enable browser notifications, your preference is stored in your
browser's local storage on your device only. We do not operate a push-notification
server. Notifications are generated entirely on-device and no notification content
or event data is sent off your device.
Data Storage
Interstellar Tracker stores the following data locally in your browser's
localStorage:
- A list of celestial events you have already been notified about (to avoid
repeat alerts). This list contains only object names and dates — no location
data.
This data never leaves your device and can be cleared at any time by clearing
your browser's site data for this app.
Children
Interstellar Tracker is intended for general audiences aged 13 and over.
We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. Because we
collect no personal data at all, there is nothing to delete or correct.
Your Rights
Because we do not collect personal data, there is no profile to access, correct,
or delete. If you have any privacy concerns, please contact us at the address below
and we will respond within 2 business days.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the app's features. The
"Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent
revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the
revised policy.
